Group Badge

This webpage explains some of the history behind the badge’s design and instructions on how it is to be worn.Coins

The design

The design is based on an Iron Age coin as used by the Dobunni tribe that inhabited our area about 2,000 years ago. The coin shown here is a silver coin bearing the name of the Dobunnic chieftain Eisu (30AD).We’ve taken the “barley-ear” device that was on one side of the coin and had it put on to a circular badge.

NeckerHow the badge is to be worn

All members of 1st Upton St Leonards Scout Group – Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Young Leaders and Leaders – will wear the badge on the point of their neckerchiefs. The “barley-ear” design has deliberately been set off-centre and at an angle so that it more closely resembles a real coin. The badge should be placed centrally on the neckerchief’s point so that its base is 65mm (2.75”) from the tip of the point and so that the central stem of the design is parallel to the left-hand edge of the point. The badge should appear as in this photograph.
