Every year 1st Upton St Leonards Scout Group holds a show around Christmas time where all the sections prepare a sketch or some songs and perform them to all the parents. This is a really popular event and is an opportunity to showcase individual’s talents such as the ability to play an instrument. Last year it was so popular this year we have to move to a bigger venue!
Christmas Fair
The Christmas Fair is a great fundraiser for 1st Upton St Leonards Scout Group. It gets bigger and better every year. We sell tables to local stall holders, sell refreshments and have a raffle. We invite everyone from the local community to this event and it helps to raise our profile in the village.
Bedding Plants
We supply bedding plants to the local community every year as a fundraiser. We’d like to thank the organising committee for all the hard work they put in, Gulivers Truck and Van hire for the Lorry and Upton St Leonards Primary School for the use of the Car park.
A few things about Scouting...
Yes there will be lots of opportunities for camps etc; after all we are Scouts! This will range from perhaps 1 or 2 nights a year on a sleepover in Beavers through to anywhere from 6 to 8 camps (or more) in Scouts
Yes we do go out in the rain, and the dark, and the wind and the cold (although hopefully not all at the same time). Lord Baden Powell himself recognised there is no such thing as the wrong kind of weather merely the wrong kind of clothes
We do expect youngsters to join us in celebrating St George’s Day and to attend Remembrance Sunday
Yes we do expect them to walk (a real shock for some of them ), and in some cases hike reasonable distances
It is about teamwork and respect so yes, they will have to do chores, share and consider others
When uniform is worn we expect it to be clean, tidy and worn correctly.
Your child will leave home one day – so through Scouting they can hopefully gain some of the skills and confidence they will need.
